Hope is "You" ... Always!
I turned 30 very recently and something beautiful happened to me. I had a mail scheduled to myself some time (not sure exactly when - a couple of years back maybe) in the past for my 30th Birthday, which I had totally forgotten about gave me a new meaning altogether.
What’s beautiful about it is – even though it goes back a couple of years it still holds apt.
The world where we stand today the word Hope has evolved as an immensely powerful and yet equally impotent. Powerful because it is still getting us going through such dire situations and Impotent because – We are still just “going on” without getting to know where we reach. The current situation that the world is trying to catch up with rephrasing it as the “New Normal” it has sent a strong beacon for a future that Time will remain the most unpredictable element it will keep rendering every planning, every future, and every prediction invalid. It ascertains that Sustenance is indeed an underrated word. As soon as all hell broke loose the primary focus was towards Business Continuity and Sustenance. Soon the entire deal was about “Being Alive” and the undying faith to overcome is what keeping everyone optimistic.
And as long as this world exists we might keep coming across such dire circumstances or threats those will make us stop and realize from time to time. Yet the only Hope we have with us is being Alive. Being in a position to sit back and think about what have we made of us? As Nietzsche says – Amor Fati. Not just accepting but being in love with your fate. But then how do we know what's our fate? Is it what's happening or that what our future holds. Doesn't matter! point is to make peace with it. (Though I don’t intend to make a futile contribution to the long-standing debate between Empiricists and Rationalists) But I feel the current situation kind of help Rationalists win a score where all our experience and competence as mankind – still claiming to be the supreme race stands questioned. However of all that has been done or happened. The question is once again about what we make of it. Well, that's where for adverse times the human trait of being adaptable comes handy I guess. The journey from our adaptiveness for survival to excelling self relies on the bridge called Hope. And this Hope is nothing but our own selves. Where self-assessment aids in creating a stronger self-awareness. This awareness always helps us decide what we want to make out of our lives. Could be for self or could be for someone else, depends wholly on the individual perspective but what stands true is all this can contribute to the greater good of someone in the whole ecosystem and that’s what that matters.
The email I had triggered a couple of years back also made me realise that each one of us goes through the same rigmarole of self-pity or drama in our lives from time to time and as we mature we realise the problems we once considered grave were as difficult as we perceived them to be. The true challenge comes when you get to look through the situations and understand what really matters in the greater picture. Not losing faith in oneself is one such life skill which actually helps us persevere through every thick and thin. From being aware to realise when we could have been better to be the "Better" now!
To believe in standing for Hope and therefore standing for self! #tobelieveistoachieve
Even if we don't achieve anything at least we had something to stand and fight for! And that's why Nietzsche came up with Amorfati I guess to even be in love with our failures too.
